Phil Vickery’s Top Canned Food Tips for Winter
With winter in full force and the festive season behind us, I wanted to share some of my recent musings on canned food and showcase some recipes that I think might make mealtimes that bit easier and tastier for you this year.
Firstly, canned food can be a great kitchen companion in the colder months and it also allows people to save money after what can be an expensive period. I for one will definitely be cooking up some canned delights in January.
To help people incorporate more canned food into their weekly meals, Love Canned Food has been working on some delicious recipes that I’d definitely recommend trying.
Fish can be a little daunting to cook with at times, it can seem difficult to figure out the correct flavours to pair with it and the preparation can prove challenging. That’s why I’m a firm believer in the use of canned fish, whether that be tuna, salmon, mackerel or something else entirely, canned fish can be the answer that home cooks are looking for when they’re trying to up their fish intake.
Love Canned Food’s recent recipes make great use of some of my favourite canned fish. One of the recipes takes sardines and adds them into a lovely tagliatelli, there’s also a Mediterranean tart made with tuna that looks amazing and is super easy to rustle up.
If you’re looking for a warming, winter dish, Love Canned Food’s Chilli and Macaroni Cheese Bake recipe is just that. Canned meat and pre-made dishes, such as chilli and curry, can be a great way to inject a bit of extra flavour into a dish with little effort. They’re also fantastic value for money, making them a good option for family meals in the week.
With the growing popularity of brunches, Love Canned Food’s Spinach, Chickpea and Potato Fry Up is an on-trend dish that’s nice and quick to cook but can certainly still impress, whoever you have round your breakfast table. I’m a big fan of anything that’s served in a skillet with a fried egg on top so this is a winner with me!
